Frequently Asked Questions

1. What kind of counselling do you offer?

I offer individual counselling for adults in a warm, supportive space where you can explore whatever feels challenging, unclear, or overwhelming. You don’t need a specific diagnosis or goal — just a willingness to talk and reflect.
Alongside general counselling, I also offer support for parents who want to feel more confident, calm, and connected in their parenting.

 2. What is humanistic integrative counselling?

Humanistic integrative counselling is a flexible, client-centred approach that draws from different therapeutic methods to suit your unique needs. It focuses on self-awareness, emotional growth, and building a trusting relationship, allowing you to explore your experiences in a supportive and non-judgmental space.

 3. What issues can I bring to counselling?

You can bring anything that’s on your mind — whether it’s anxiety, low mood, self-doubt, relationship stress, life transitions, or parenting challenges. If something is feeling heavy or stuck, counselling can help you make sense of it.

 4. What happens in a session?

Each session is guided by your needs. We might talk through experiences, explore emotional patterns, or use reflective or creative techniques depending on what feels most useful to you. Sessions are always collaborative and at your pace.

 5. Do you offer support specifically for parents?

Yes —I work with parents or carers seeking guidance and emotional support. Sessions can help you understand your child’s behaviour, support their emotional regulation, and respond with more calm and confidence. We’ll also focus on your wellbeing — because caring for yourself supports your ability to care for your child.

 6. How long does therapy take?

Some people benefit from short-term counselling (6–12 sessions), while others prefer longer-term support. We’ll talk about your goals and decide together what feels most helpful.

 7. How often are sessions?

Sessions are usually once a week and last 50 minutes. Regularity helps build trust and momentum, but we can adjust the frequency if needed.

 8. Are sessions confidential?

Yes — confidentiality is central to our work. Everything you share is kept private, with a few legal exceptions (such as risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or when required by law). We’ll talk through this in your first session.

 9. How much do sessions cost?

£80 (in-person), £65 (online)
Concessions may be available for students or those on low income. Please ask if this applies to you.

 10. When do I need to pay for sessions?

Payment is required in advance to confirm your session. I’ll provide bank details when we book. Online sessions are paid by bank transfer, and in-person sessions can be arranged similarly.

 11. Do I need a referral to start counselling?

No referral is needed. You’re welcome to contact me directly to book a free 15-minute consultation.

 12. What can I expect from the initial consultation?

It’s a chance to explore what’s bringing you to therapy, ask questions, and get a feel for how I work. There’s no pressure — it’s about deciding together if it’s a good fit.

 13. What if I feel uncomfortable during therapy?

That’s completely okay. Sometimes, difficult emotions can surface when we explore deeper issues. You’re always encouraged to say if something doesn’t feel right. Your comfort and emotional safety are a priority.

 14. Can I stop therapy if it’s not for me?

Yes — you’re free to stop at any time. I recommend having a planned final session so we can bring things to a thoughtful close, but there’s no obligation to continue if it doesn’t feel right.

 15. Do you offer online or in-person sessions?

Yes — I offer both. You can choose what works best for you. If you’re unsure, we can talk through the options during your consultation.

 16. Do you work with children or couples?

No, I currently work with individual adults only. However, I do support parents who want to better understand and support their children through 1:1 parenting guidance.
